The Australian guided treks are designed to give you a feel of the culture and surroundings that are the Kokoda Trail. Our Australian guide Shane Thomas has been raised in PNG (speaks the language) and understands the need for a cultural experience as well as the history of the war campaign.
Shane has walked the Kokoda Trail more 14 times over the past 12 months, and has over 20 years experience as a local to PNG having been raised and educated in PNG before moving to Australia for a tertiary education. He also has a current first aid certificate.
These treks are not a race and the entire group will be kept relatively together at all times. Everyone walks at a different pace. Some trekkers find going up hills easier than going down and vice versa. At no time will a trekker go in front of the leading guide or fall behind the trailing guide. This gap will be monitored closely for the safety of all trekkers.
The minimum number of trekker's is 1 whilst the maximum is 18.
Shane believes that trekkers have the right to walk on the trek they have chosen on the dates they have chosen, whether there is one person booked or eighteen. Other companies reserve the right to cancel treks if the numbers are not there due to financial reasons. This is unfair to the trekker who then has to rearrange their holidays, flights etc. Keep this in mind when choosing a trek operator.
The Australian led treks now provide a warm shower and popup shower tent. The water is extremely cold at some locations and privacy is an added bonus. Make sure you take this into account when booking your trek.
