This trek will commence when you fly into Popondetta on the 11th January. You will be met at Popondetta airport and driven up to Kokoda where you will overnight as our guests at Orohaven Kokoda Retreat. The following day you will commence your walk finishing at Owers' Corner on the 18th January 2010. Trek 617 - Guide Justus Evari:

List of Trekkers:

Kim Murphy and her friend Judith Field

The trekkers arrived in Port Moresby on the 9th of January. Both Kim and Judith were met by our staff member to go over the plans for the following morning.

Kim and Judith caught the flight to Popondetta on the early morning flight at 6:15 am where they were met by our staff member Brendan Buka the fastest man on the track in both directions. A delighted surprise for the girls as they had read about him on our website over the months leading up to their trek.

After a long day they arrived in Kokoda at around 3:00pm where they were met by Gail Thomas. Both girls were excited by the trip from Popondetta to Kokoda as they were able to experience and learn a little about the country and culture along the way. It was a night full of interesting events while they awaited the next morning's trek.

The Guide for this trek is Dudley Bubara.

Judith's Personal Porter is Brendan Buka.
Kim's Personal Porter is Frank Taimbari

The Trek departed at 6:45am. The plan was to walk to Isurava Battlefield where they would camp for the night.

We have photo's which should be available to view in the next few days.

The trekkers are progressing well and have spent there first night at Isurava.

The next day they walked on to Alola Village and down to Iora Creek where they discovered that the river was in flood. The guides successfuly got the girls across the river and have moved on to Myloa Junction. 1900 Campsite area tonight.

The girls are estimated to reach the half way point of Efogi tomorrow.

It has been raining but am not sure exactly how much. I will be speaking with our office in the morning so will let you know.

The pictures from the beginning of the trek should be available soon. The pictures were sent from Kokoda yesterday but we had some trouble retrieving them. We hopefully should have them available tomorrow afternoon. We apologise for any inconvenience.

Hi everyone,

Here are some pictures of Judith and Kim before the trek departed. We should have some more pictures to upload at the end of the trek.

It was raining the day the girls started and at this point hasn't rained since. The girls are travelling well and should have a further update later this afternoon.

Last night the group called from Maguli Range saying that they would spend the night at Nairo.

Yesterday they walked from Naduri to Nairo which made it a long days walk.

The group is on Target to walk out Monday.

Sorry, I was in Kokoda when this trek walked off the track at Owers' Corner. From all accounts the two women did extremely well according to our KTL staff who walked with them.

So a big thank you on behalf of Kokoda Trekking, we would like to say thank you for choosing to walk with us. We trust you enjoyed your walk and the company of our staff.

kind regards

Gail
